Our residential program provides adults with developmental disabilities with a place they can truly call home. Enriching activities, continuous access to the community, and a family like atmosphere will give the participants a feeling of pride. NPLH Service Group will provide the following specific supports, as a baseline to encourage discovery and growth:
- Cooking classes: We believe that being able to feed oneself is a critical step in achieving independence. Unlike others, we will have community members come in throughout the year to not just teach participants simple, nutritious recipes, but how to safely navigate a kitchen.
- Introducing mindful meditation practices as a way to cope with the day to day struggles in life when.
- Encouraging positive music therapy and color stimulation to increase joy in the home space.
- Financial Literacy classes: We believe that after a person is able to feed themselves, earning and controlling their own money is the next step to independence. We will expose participants receiving supports to financial literacy classes, providing assistance with understanding money (with ability-appropriate supports).
- Community Involvement: Rather than continuously expose participants to independent geared activities, we will also provide opportunities for participants to engage in the same activities as their peers. This includes gardening classes, clubs, involvement in neighborhood associations, and other things of interest. Limiting exposure will not only create adaptive behaviors but diminish the chances of new skills being acquired.
- Encouragement of romantic and interpersonal relationships: It is imperative that participants are able to experience life in all aspects.
Staffing ratios will be in compliance with the Person-Centered Plan. Other staffing ratios included in the Person-Centered Plan include: two to one; one to one; one to two; one to three; one to four. Staffing will be scheduled based on the needs of the participant outlined in the Person-Centered Plan.
